Right now I have a AMD sempron le-1150, and I am putting in a Athlon 64 X2 dual core. Can I just use the same fan and heatsink that I already have, or do i have to go and get one specific?
Can I use the fan and heatsink that is already in my computer when I replace the CPU?
Always get the one made for the CPU. A dual core CPU gives off more heat than a single core.

I'd go for a fan %26amp; heatsink designed for the X2, it's likely that the sempron fan/heatsink won't be up to the job as the X2 will no doubt be producing a lot more heat than the sempron.
Not worth skimping on this as it'll only set you back a few extra bucks...otherwise you risk frying the cpu at a higher cost...
(On another note, AMD's usually run hotter than Intel cpu's.)
If you opt for the AMD retail package (PIB) at a slightly higher cost then the OEM version, you'll get the processor with the correct heatsink %26amp; fan bundled in the box and a three year warranty.
Just make sure that your PC case/ventilation and power supply are up to the job as well.
Reply:it's best to use the HSF (heatsink%26amp;fan) that the CPU came with. or even better get a retail HSF.
Athlon 64 X2 dual core is more powerful than the sempron, so it will give out more heat. if you use the one that was on the PC before then you might risk overheating the CPU and then fry the CPU and more than likely the part of the motherboard the CPU sits in. so then you will also have to replace the motherboard and buying another CPU.
Reply:Fan and heatsink is not actually part of a computer blueprint so they are interchangeable, but just as others say Athlon 64 X2 is much more powerful than the Sempron and giving off more heat so something graded to use on a Sempron is not suitable for reuse on an X2.
There is a material called Thermal paste/heat compound you got to buy and use to apply fan and heatsink onto a CPU if the heatsink is not a brand-new merchandise with it pre-applied.
Reply:Hi, yes you can as long as it fits and keep your CPU cool.
Reply:Yes, if it would protect your c.p.u
