If you don't have a lot on your system you could get a flash drive. That is a quick and easy way. If your using windows xp use the transfer wizard to copy your files or the entire disc to a flash drive or cd.

If u just wanna reboot your laptop, why you should backup your folders on it ? If u wanna format it, or total re-installing OS on it, yeah u would backup it..
