When I go to "My Computer" I can't see my external hard disk. I was told that if I allocate a letter drive to it it would solve my problem. Where exatctly do I have to go to do that?

If windows is detecting it properly, windows will assign it a letter.Go to www.windows.com and do a search for autofix.Make sure your external is plugged into the USB port and turned on when you run the software.

It means your drive is not allocated and formated. Go to control panel, open the administrative tools and from there select the disk management. you will see a list of drives in ur computer. Now select the unknown partition of your external drive right click and click new partition. Use this drive as primary partition and format using NTFS or FAT 32. After the partition is sucessful you can selkect the drive letter.
Reply:Windows should detect an external HHD when it is plugged in.

Check "Add new Hardware" in Control Panel.

The USB controllers should update
Reply:i had the same problem

go to control pannel%26gt;addmistrativ tools%26gt;computer manigment%26gt;disk manegment%26gt;then formatit the hard drive to Fat32 (if you are using a mac or some other os) NTFS if you are just using windows)
Reply:Ok, find My computer icon right click and click manage. Click Disk Management and find the drive that hasn't got a Drive letter. Right click on it and choose Change drive letter. If it's a new drive than probably you need to format it as well. To do that right click on the drive and click Format. Choose NTFS File System and thick the Perform a Quick Format button to save some time, it will work perfectly
