Monitor goes to power save after 1 minute or so?

follow up to yesterdays question


monitor goes to power save after 1 - 2 mins of operation , pc sounds like it is still on,


tried monitor with other pc and fine


been to powersave options in settings and they were set to never


could it be something overheating

If it's overheating, it could be the fans. Overheating fans can cause these kind of problems:





Maybe try clean out the hard-drive a bit; getting rid of the dust in between the fans. That might fix it. Use a small brush or a cool-air hairdryer to blow the dust away.

It could even be a failing power supply. I would also check into that. Check to see if your video card fan, CPU fan are spinning and not clogged with dust. Check out your memory, try reseating them in there slots.

Sounds like your computer is shutting down to protect itself from overheating the noise is the fans trying to cool it.


When was the inside of the computer cleaned of dust and dirt?


Disconnect from the mains. Take the side off of the computer. Arm yourself with a makeup brush and vacuum cleaner and brush all the components and fans while sucking the dirt and dust with the cleaner. Do not forget the one in the power supply. If possible a little light machine oil on the fan spindles.


It is advisable to earth yourself to the computer chassis as the static from your body could blow some of the components.
