I have a Dell E1505 laptop and an older Samsung TV. I wanted to run a S-Video cord to TV to watch movies. I believe I already had an S-Video cord hooked up before, yes, but the problem is they are very small holes like for earphones or more precisely, like my ps2 wires or hook-up. Does anyone have any suggestions of what I can do?

Another good site to try is Firefold.com. I have purchased all of my cables from them in the past. They have extremely good cables for cheap. I bought a vga cable for my projector 50' for like $16. When I got it the cable used was extremely thick high conductivity cable that costs upwards of $100+ for name brand like Monster. I have also bought s-video cables and adapters and other RCA cables for audio. All are super products with good contacts and premium quality cables. I would recommend you check them out.

LCD defect is still covered by the warranty?
A white line appears on the LCD of my Presario V3431. I was hoping for a free repair since I bought it just 9 months ago. Where will I turn to for the repair?

NON SYSTEM DISK ERROR, please help?
My computer is a Compaq and when I try to start it up my computer says "non system disk or desk error, replace and hit any key". So I checked all the USB places and the flobby disk drive and the CD drives and they were all empty, and it still shows up. What should I do? And if it has something to do with a BIOS thing, what is that and how do I get there? (Please be specific, I don't know much about computers.) Thanks a ton! :)

I'm currently using speedfan and everest ultimate (not at the same time).
Speedfan says both of my cpus are running at approximate 42C
Everest Ultimate says they are in the upwards of 60C
I'm just browsing the internet by the way. Should I trust speedfan?

This happened before but I dont remember how I fixed it. The computer is a Window XP, HP Pavillion mx70 and only occasionally it will read disks. I even tried those cleaners for it (CD with bristles) but it wont read that either. What can I do besides buy a new computer?

You dont NEED a new PC....you need a new drive....they are relatively simple to install.....go out and choose one to your liking and rock on! You can get a burner as cheap as 30 bucks these days if you want to step up to a more functional drive.

You dont NEED a new PC....you need a new drive....they are relatively simple to install.....go out and choose one to your liking and rock on! You can get a burner as cheap as 30 bucks these days if you want to step up to a more functional drive.

Problem with analog power saving mode?

Laptop screen won't work!?
I have a Satellite Toshiba laptop and every time I turn it on I can hear everything working, but the screen won't turn on. At all. I have to take out the battery to turn it off since pressing the power button has no effect.
So pretty much. I press the power button. Motors whir and make sounds like normal. But screen remains off.

My Windows XP wont let me choose standyby mode?
My computer crashed, and after re-installing windows xp it works again, but won't let me choose standby mode, therefore my laptop wont go into standby mode after being idle for a while. Its sucking up my battery life and is really annoying. I can only choose log off or shut down, and the yellow stand by button is sort of "shadowed" out and unclickable. Help please!

I'm in the process of upgrading my HP Pavilion into a gaming computer. I have the a6228x model, and plan to add 1GB RAM (Totaling 3GB), case fan, 8800GT, and a new power supply. I am completely stuck on the power supply.
First of all, I only know that I have to get an ATX, not an ATX 12V (difference?) I've been looking on newegg and in my list of ATX's I found a couple that were ATX, ATX V2.2, and ATX V2.01. Is there any difference between these?
Also, my motherboard has a 24-pin power connection, but my 250W stock power supply only has a 20-pin connector. If I get a power supply with a 20+4 pin connector, would plugging in the extra 4-pin damage or enhance my performance in any way?
Also, any good reliable companies? I went through the site and I narrowed it down to like, 10. You don't have to pick one out, but if you could, could you remove any eye-catchers as possible problems? Thanks in advance. Please I need an answer, especially about the 24-pin. 10 points to best answer.

What does the error message media test failure mean?
I forget the entire message but here's what happens. I can go to youtube, pull up a video. Suddenly the computer freezes, then I get a blue screen which quickly blanks off and turns to a black screen. The black screen says the Media Test failure message. Either when I'm watching video or listening to music files is when I have this issue. From there, I can't select enter or escape. The computer will just restate the message. I have to reboot from the power button which works fine. It's not daily either. All other functions are fine. Does anyone know what this is? It's a compaq presario purchased a couple years ago. Is my baby dying? :(

Hi, what you mean by not working easy? if it's not working at all, try check the IDE or if it SATA check that cable. Also try the molex power socket.

Selecting a graphics card?
I recently purchased a Dell Inspiron 530 - Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 3 GB of RAM, PCIEx16, 350W battery. Since Dell's selection of cards was poor, I purposefully got integrated graphics with the idea to upgrade. Now I am stuck trying to pick a good option.
My primary uses for the PC are gaming, photo editing, occasional DVD watching. I am probably a more casual gamer, playing primarily sports games - the EA line-up of Madden, NHL, NBA, Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer, 2K Top Spin 2, racing, etc. I do not play any of the 1st person shooter games or RPG. I suppose that makes me a casual gamer.
So with that in mind, I am looking for a card, preferrably in a sub $150 range, that is efficient enough to run on my existing battery and that will provide a good playing experience with the types of games I play.

the 8800gs is a good choice. It is more powerful than the 8600's and less expensive than the higher 8800's. Also, the 9600gt is a good option. You will have to check the power usage on these, however, since 350w is not a ton of power.

the power supply should hold up cos the power consumption is only about 40W at worst but if the computer shows sigs of struggling on the power you can buy and upgrade very easily i would recommend an ASUS product

Hey, im entering an industrial design course and it is time to update my laptop now. at the moment i have an acer running windows xp. What is wrong with my computer?
my computer gets a little glitchy every now and then, and one day randomly the font and everything went bigger, like you know when you go to properties to make everything larger so its easier to read and such, well mine kinda did that, but without me asking for it, and according my computer its at the lowest it can be, WHICH I KNOW ITS NOT, EVERYTHING BIGGER THEN IT SHOULD BE, its getting in my way, and i checked, i have no virus's, my computers working fine right now, its not to full of stuff, it has enough space, so whats wrong with it? i've looked into my support center for help, and either i haven't looked hard enough or it has no answer for this issue. Use SLI drivers only if you have two 8400GS in your notebook. Otherwise only use the normal driver.

Why this happens to me ?
Suddenly my pc monitor shuts down, then I can't turn it on for a while, after that, seconds later my pc is unable to do anything and I have no image on my monitor, and it says something like "power saving engine... monitor shuts down..." and "no signal". I could only make it work again only after I unplugged the whole thing (computer) and left him that way fro about 5 min. Is this an overheat problem ? I just putted 2 fans, one over my pc (computer) and the other one above my pc monitor. Since then I think it was 30 min. and it doesn't do that again. Is that the solution ? Please help me in this problem !

If possible a little light machine oil on the fan spindles.
It is advisable to earth yourself to the computer chassis as the static from your body could blow some of the components. This maybe the answer.

Reply:Vista has problems, partly because it is too large, bloated and buggy for the machines that can run it. And partly support by the manufacturers out there which have been slow to pick up the support issues.
For what you want I would say XP, under Vista licencing you can request to downgrade to XP as some shops tell you they don't stock XP anymore. Microsoft have had to backtrack numerous times to continue supporting XP as Vista is not being taken up by business because of the issues with it. (and there are many)
For a laptop with Vista you need at least 2 GB, RAM. A law suit in America is taking to task the "Vista ready stickers" as they are usually under performing PC's that can only run the basic Vista, without the fancy stuff turned on. If they are turned off it is pretty much Xp to a normal user.
Otherwise you would do okay with a 1 GB RAM, 40 or 60 GB minimum hard drive (unless you intend to store music) and for some kind of future proofing (Will last you a few years) I would suggest a dual core, which are not that expensive now for AMD cores.
Depending on your budget I would suggest a speed for the CPU as around 2.0 GHZ or bigger assuming it is dual core. If not then go for something above 3.0 GHZ single core. (ask at the shop and they can explain)
Graphics I would reccommend for Vista that it is 128 AGP minimum, don't get a built in graphics chip (called integrated by some shops) if you want Vista, it won't cut it in the real world.
For Xp then 64MB integrated will do for what you suggest (Though I still reccommend an AGP card or PCI card for single cores of 128MB it takes the hassle of graphics away from your CPU.)
Brands, HP are the biggest, then Dell then Acer and IBM and toshiba are 4 and 5 (not sure which order)
Shops, go for the ones you trust. Ebuyer.co.uk, laptopsdirect.co.uk. Pc world I wouldn't recommend as their IT support is known to be dubious and there sales people can easily be proved inadequate when pushed for questions.
But shop around and you can get good deals for Pc's and good prices as well.
BOOTNOTE - Vistas replacement is being scheduled for 2009 / 2010, called Windows 7 at the moment. So might be worth getting XP and hanging on to the next one.

This is my computer: Sony Vaio VGC-RA830G; is running on Windows XP Media Center Edition Service Pack 3; 1.50 RAM, 291GB Hard Drive Capacity - with 112 GB free space, which makes it have 38% free space. Now is having 38% free space bad? I've notice a bit of performance change from when i first bought it about 3-4 years ago. About a year after a i bought I had to replace it's hard drive because the one it came with died. After having it replaced, under the warranty it had, i've notice a performance change. As it was a bit sluggish, not like when i first bought the previous year. And after that, the performance change continues. I've just added 512 MB RAM, and i have used Disk Check, Disk defragmentation, i have used CCleaner, and have un-installed a few programs. Could the 38% of free space be the problem? Do I need to free much more memory to get it back to the way it was 3-4 years ago. Is that even possible. Thanks.

How much space you have on you hard drive affect very little the performance. It would be that your pc is pretty old and its time for an upgrade. Make sure the ram you got is compatible with the old ram you have.. sometimes different brands dont get together too well.

more memory always allows faster speeds, I usually wipe everytime from my hard drive and start again every 2 years. Also I use an external to put all my "excess" programs to increase my computer boot up speed etc. Increasing RAM is also another way to increase your comps speed. I have 2gb and it works fine for me. Also try to cut back programs that are running in the background, those can slow you down.

I realize CCleaner has a registry cleaner but it's not exactly what you'd call powerful.
It's possible the data on your hard drive is affecting your performance.
If data is placed on the inside track of your hard drive, it takes longer for the system to analyze your commands and find the data. UltimateDefrag helps by putting your frequently used data on the outside tracks of your hard drive so it takes less time to access that data.

When I go to "My Computer" I can't see my external hard disk. I was told that if I allocate a letter drive to it it would solve my problem. Where exatctly do I have to go to do that?

The white light is because of the flurocent light bulb in the LCD screen which gives contrast and brightness to the screen. It looks like you did not connect the signal cable of the LCD pannel with the motherboard.

- XFX 780i SLI OR ASUS 780i SLI mother board
- 4GB DDR2 800MHZ 5-5-5-15 RAM
- 320GB 7200RPM SATA II Hard Drive
- 9800GX2 Graphics card (A Beauty)
- 20X DVD Rewriter
- 22" 5ms-8000:1 LG LCD Monitor
- OCZ 1010W SLI Power Supply
- Antec 900 Gaming Case
- Logitech G5 Mouse
- Black Media Keyboard (No need for Logitech G15)
The reason I have included a 1010W power supply is because I want to eventually upgrade to have two 9800GX2's working in SLI.
Are the motherboards I listed good ones? Are there any problems with my plan? E.g. 1010W isnt enough or I don't need that expensive motherboard??

I recommend getting the EVGA 750i motherboard which is a great overclocker SLI motherboard.
Also, look into the Western Digital 640GB drives, they are very fast and at a great price.
Make sure you get a Pioneer DVD writer, trust me. :)
I agree the 9800GX2 is great, but the new GTX 280's are coming out soon, so save your money and get a 8800GT in the meantime.
Oh, and that PSU is overkill. Look into the Corsair hx620.

Should I disable Crash Dump on Vista?
Well sometimes (at least 4 times everyday) when I'm searching youtube or browsing a new site, I get the Blue screen of death (memory dump). I know how to disable Crash Dump but I'm not sure if it's safe, I just want to know if anything could possibly happen if I disable crash dump? Thanks.

Just that the Wireless WiFi Card Acer IPN2220 is not supported by win vista as it mentioned. I tried using win xp driver by force install, but it cant. I want to build a gaming desktop,can anyone help me out here?

Does the Acer Aspire 6920G notebook support LightScribe?
Whenever I put in an empty CD / DVD into the drive - the usual "What do you want to do?" box pops up and asks me if I would either like to write to the CD, etc. etc. - I noticed that LightScribe is on the list as well. As there's nothing on my laptop that says my BD drive is capable of LightScribe, I'm not sure if I can use it - or is the Acer Aspire 6920G capable of doing so?
Will these programs work on an iMac?
I'm going to buy an iMac, I'm currently using a PC and never used an imac before. Just want to check that all my regular programs will work on the iMac:

MSN/Chat
last.fm
Notepad

Mac does not have Windows live Mail, i'm not even sure it is supported, BUT mac does have iMail, that can be used to access your emails.
For MSN, yes there is a mac version.
What is last.fm ?
Notepad nope, but Mac does have this program called TextEdit, works the same as notepad :)

But I use a program called Adium which runs almost every chat client flawlessly. For example I can use MSN, AIM, Yahoo at the same time, and multiple accounts.
Mac OS X comes with a program called TextEdit, it's basically the same thing as wordpad or notepad. I'm not sure if Notepad is included in Microsoft Office, but that is also available for OS X (it's also said to function better on a Mac than on Windows Vista right now.. Go figure.)
Last FM I'm not familiar with.. Sorry!

Edit: I went to the Last.FM website and it worked for me.. I'm on a MBP..
Also, if you really need Windows, you can run it in bootcamp which comes pre loaded in all new Macs. It runs at native speed too so performance is almost exactly the same as it would be on a traditional PC.. There's other software that allows you to do this but Bootcamp works the best IMO.

Will my PC's printer work on my new iMac?
It's a HP PSC 1410
I noticed their wasn't many places to plug things in at the back of the iMac, just wondering if it's going to work or if the wifi thing will pick it up

Yes definitely it will work, unless it's a damn old printer or parallel one. If it's running on USB or wireless, yes it can.

If your printer is a USB device, you can connect it in the back of the computer (sometimes in front and sides too.) Otherwise it cannot connect with the computer.
HP also provides Printers for iMac.
